Risk of Foodborne Illness from Pet Food: Assessing Pet Owners' Knowledge, Behavior, and Risk Perception

What is it about?

Pet food has been identified as a source of pathogenic bacteria. We conducted a nationwide consumer survey and found that most pet owners are not aware of pet food recalls or outbreaks associated with foodborne pathogens and they lack knowledge of safe pet food handling. The findings of this study indicated the need for consumer education about pet food handling.
