What is it about?

This work demonstrates how children use different strategies to learn several components of language. Across development, children use some strategies more or less often, discover new ones, and eliminate others.

Why is it important?

According to traditional theories of development, children go through developmental stages in which little variability is expected. This work offers a new perspective on language development that can better explain why we typically observe large differences between children.

Perspectives

I wrote this review as an assignment for a doctoral course. I really enjoyed applying a theory that was initially developed to explain math skills to my own area of expertise: language acquisition.
