What is it about?

Neural mobilisation is treatment aimed at the nerves and is used fr conditions where nerve involvement is suspected. We treated patients with neck and arm pain with neural mobilisation and found that their pain improved significantly at 6 month follow-up when compared with a group that received only mobilisation and exercises without neural mobilisation

Why is it important?

Mobilisation and exercise improved pain, disability and quality of life significantly and results were maintained at 12 months. However, the improvement in pain in the group that received neural mobilisation was significantly better at 6 month follow-up

Perspectives

Manual therapy (joint and neural mobilisation) and exercise improved pain, disability and quality of life significantly. Contrary to the natural course of neck pain, these patients continued to improve over a 12 month period. The presence of neuropathic pain is common in an acute/sub-acute population but manual therapy and exercise significantly decreased the present of neuropathic pain at 12 months follow-up.
