What is it about?
In this study we explored two clinics that had been awarded for being good learning environments for students in health professions education. We wanted to find out how they were organised and what students and staff thought about the environments.

Why is it important?
As a large part of student learning in health professions education is carried out in the clinical environment it is important to understand how those environments could become as supportive as possible, in terms of students learning. In this study we identified two different kinds of systems, one based on systematic strategy, and one based on the creation of a 'culture' which both lead to positive learning environments for students.
Perspectives
This publication is imporant as it is the first in a series of publications on learning environments where health professions students learn and clinicians work as both clinicians and teachers.
