What is it about?
Propellers are typically mounted upstream of a wing or pylon. As a result, the wing or pylon is subjected to the unsteadiness in the slipstream of the propeller. This can lead to structural vibrations, which can be perceived as noise in the cabin. This paper studies the potential of a flow-permeable leading edge to alleviate the propeller-induced unsteady loading. It is shown that the unsteady loading can be reduced, at the cost of decreased time-averaged aerodynamic performance.
