Why is it important?

Laccase is one of important ligninolytic enzymes that has an important economical value

Perspectives

Due to laccase relatively broad substrate specificity, it has wide potential industrial applicability, including pulp bleaching in the paper industry, dye decolorization, oxygen cathode development for biofuel cells, biosensors, bioremediation, and detoxification of environmental pollutants.Heap et al. (2014) used laccase in an enzymatic pretreatment method to improve lignocellulosic saccharification. Laccases have also applications in the medical side to prepare certain drugs like anticancer drugs and they are added in cosmetics to minimize their toxic effects (Couto and Herrera, 2006).
