No research has looked at the uncertainties of hospice patients and their families. We conducted a secondary analysis of existing data with hospice patients and their families to see what was said about uncertainty at the end of life.

Why is it important?
Providers need to understand what patients and family members are uncertain about when providing end-of-life care. Additional research is needed to understand when uncertainty causes distress to anticipate when patients might need help.
