What is it about?

Are limits in human performance due to our maxing out and hitting an upper limit (asymptotes) or do most human limits reflect stable suboptimal performance (plateaus) that could be improved?

Why is it important?

Plateaus vs asymptotes are important as the questions asked and the means of overcoming one or the other differ. I hope that delineating the distinction between these two will help clarify the distinction between real versus “spurious limits” and advance theoretical debates regarding learning and performance.
