What is it about?
How can we study whether a particular speaking style is acceptable in different cultures? We suggest to use robots for this purpose; specifically, we show on the example of references to the ordinary in serious situations, like stating some unexpected detail when telling about the death of a family member, how we can use robots to study whether such strategies are equally accepted in two different cultures, namely in Japan and in the US.
