What is it about?

As software such as Zoom and Skype have become more prevalent in modern working society, technologies such as Mixed Reality (MR) are being looked to as a way of enhancing the feeling of togetherness in these remote working environments. However, what about when there are people working together both on a work site and remotely? How do tackle this challenge? And what if the remote worker is in a leadership role? This paper explores these challenges.

Why is it important?

We find that the role of a remote user can affect their level of engagement and the way in which they use provided tools in a collaboration. Additionally, we find there are a number of usability concerns that should be considered when developing Mixed Reality collaborative software that supports both local and remote groups.

Perspectives

While the results of this article don't necessarily surprise, there were a number of considerations that came up that do. This research shows that many-to-many and many-to-one collaborative Mixed Reality software have many unique problems beyond those found in extensively researched one-to-one collaborative MR software.
