What is it about?
Using data from Jackson Heart Study (JHS), we examined the associations of childhood SEP (CSEP), adulthood SEP (ASEP), and neighborhood SEP (NSEP) with 10 selected dietary intake measures. We found that high ASEP may have more beneficial impact on dietary behaviors among African Americans in the Southeastern US compared to CSEP or NSEP. The only exception was that NSEP had a potentially stronger association with whole grain intake. Understanding the socioeconomic patterning of dietary intake should be considered in interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease.
