What is it about?
Mycobacterium abscessus is a mycobacteria that causes infections in cystic fibrosis and immunocompromised patients. This is a big problem in United States. This bacterium is resistant to major antibiotics and is the major cause of death in cystic fibrosis patients. The current research screened several ß-lactam class of drugs against L,D-transpeptidase enzymes from M. abscessus and used these information to develop dual ß-lactam drugs combination for the treatment of M. abscessus infections. The study also revealed structural and molecular basis of inhibition of L,D-transpeptidases by ß-lactams
