What is it about?

Small molecules, peptides, present in food are beneficial for health. We have studied the composition of thousands of them, from food of animal origin, to understand how their structure is linked to their action. This was done by searching for data in repositories and papers, and applying statistical analysis.

Why is it important?

The results can be accessed by other scientists. Hopefully somebody will perform experiments to demonstrate how some peptides can have positive effects on human health. And then, somebody will find a way to enrich food with these beneficial molecules.

Perspectives

We think that our work could be the starting point for new experiments, new ideas and a move towards a personalised nutrition, where food acts also as a medicine.
