Why is it important?

Validation of the use of Virtual Reality (VR) as a medium or platform for the conveying of symptoms of claustrophobia and panic disorder. The work demonstrates the a multi-modal immersive approach enhances the feeling of empathy in the user.

Perspectives

Virtual Reality is a safe environment where users can be exposed to symptoms of Panic Disorders (specifically Claustrophobia in this case), in a controlled and measured way. The work shows that, in a carefully designed experience, we can engender empathy in the user for sufferers of Panic Disorders.
