What is it about?
This article introduces methods and limitations of using an inertial measurement unit as a human-machine interface in remote control of a mobile platform. Such an interface does not require both hands for safe operation and provides better mobility for the human operator. The article analyzes and mathematically describes the processing of the readings obtained from the inertial measurement unit and their conversion into remote control commands. During experiments, we have used an operator interface containing an inertial measurement unit for remote control of the 4-wheeled mobile platform with an Ackermantype steering system.
