What is it about?
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented significant challenges to both police and residents. Our paper is the first study that examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on residents' feelings of safety in disadvantaged, high-crime neighborhoods. We found that changes that are made in policing such as reduction in police presence and patrolling, reduction in police engagement with the public reduce safety among residents while residents who experience the positive encounter with police are more likely to feel safe during the pandemic.
