What is it about?

This article is about the Northern Sea Route, specifically the route between Europe and Asia that travels along the coast of Russia and around Scandinavia. It reviews current research and then adopts a qualitative approach of gathering the current thinking of key stakeholders regarding the viability of the route at this time.

Why is it important?

It is important as it adds this qualitative angle to existing quantitative angles. Interestingly, the qualitative angle complements and confirms much of the existing quantitative research: that at this time there is not a significant possibility that the route will become economically viable.

Perspectives

It was fascinating to read and interpret the thoughts of the key stakeholders involved and to see how this compared with the research findings and other data on the Northern Sea Route.
