What is it about?

This study demonstrates how frozen preservation can provide greater utilisation of food by consumers and reduce household food waste. Previous research carried out in the UK market compared fresh and frozen food use in households and the amount of consumer food waste was dependent on food preservation method. This study supports these findings enabling the development of a decision matrix that will support the development of more sustainable meals. It defines the food waste associated with fresh and frozen food products and reports the use of frozen results in a 6-fold reduction in household food waste.
