What is it about?
In this study the relationship of human age and the length of their corresponding cellular rhythm was investigated. This rhythm is important for metabolic regulation and organisation throughout the body. With age our behavioral rhythms weaken and shorten in period, but on a molecular level the results are controverse. To clarify this question for human adipocytes, we obtained adipose tissue from metabolically challended/ obese tissue donors and isolated adipocytes and investigated their intrinsic rhythms without the influence of systemic or body sinals. We found a correlation between age and period length, which speaks for a degenaration of rhythms on a cellular level.
