What is it about?
It is one of the first articles to study the factors that heighten or lower the costs of voting at the individual level. Costs are subjective and include any costs deemed important by interviewees, such as the informational costs of deciding which party to vote for and the costs of going to the polling booths.

Why is it important?
Voting is the most important democratic act. If we want to understant the voting decision, we have to understand why do some individuals have higher duty, party differentials, costs of voting, and tendency to estimate their electoral impact than others.
Perspectives
This is one of the first formal models of the costs of voting. It includes factors that affect the informational costs of voting, the costs of going to the polls, and the tendency to rationalize the overall magnitude of the costs of voting.
