Why is it important?

There is an ongoing debate about the use of Lean Six Sigma in the public sector, whether it is suited, the impact on staff and what the benefits actually are. This article adds to the discussion and seeks to fill some of the research gaps in the area. There is also very little published in regards to policing and quality management and so this article is one of the first of its kind.

Perspectives

Policing services are under real financial pressure and must evolve and focus on the right services to the right standards. The public should be involved in the design of such services. Lean Six Sigma can provide the opportunity to do this if it is implemented in the right context, aligned to the organisational strategy and performance metrics and takes full account of the voice of the customer.
