Why is it important?
With the increasing use of English as a lingua franca, native speakers of English will need training on how to communicate successfully with nonnative speakers. Blame for ineffective or failed communication exchanges between native and nonnative speakers has frequently fallen on the nonnative speaker, but research has shown that native speaker's use of ineffective strategies can lead to communication failure or to the feeling that an exchange went poorly.
