What is it about?

This study is to explore the how the Chinese news media frame their coverage on Sino-US trade conflict. The case study demonstrates that Chinese media exploit multifarious frames to construct the identity of nation, which correspondingly select and highlight the frames that conform to national culture value, guiding the audience to resonate.

Why is it important?

This study interprets the framing mechanism in political discourse pertaining to Sino-US trade conflict, which comprehensively reveals the different values and power struggles behind the Sino-US trade conflict in Chinese media. The linkage betweenframing and ideology is bridged and interpreted, whereby the social circumstance and value can be better accounted for, which is furthermore in a bid to reasonably guide public opinions.

Perspectives

The study synergizes cognitive linguistics and critical discourse studies, demonstrating the applicability and explanatory power of cognitive linguistics, and I hope that it can proffer a renovated analytical framework and adding a new variety to CDA toolk
