Why is it important?
This study is one of the first to examine how Netflix's approach to diversity is translated through audio description across languages. It shows that audiences may be exposed to different understandings of the same story depending on the language they listen to.
Perspectives
What fascinated me most was how much interpretive work is carried out by audio describers and translators who work for streaming platforms, even though their contribution often remains invisible. I hope this article gives greater recognition to the role they play in shaping global media, especially as streaming platforms become an increasingly important part of everyday life.
