Acceptability of racial microaggressions from the perspective of speech-language pathology students

What is it about?

This study asked students in speech-language pathology programs to rate the acceptability of well-documented racial and ethnic microaggressions.

Why is it important?

This research examines the potential existence of implicit racial bias which may manifest as racial microaggressions in speech-language pathology students. Although most SLP students rejected microaggressive statements, approximately one-third either actively endorsed, or did not actively reject, such statements. Given the potential harm of racial microaggressions, and the racial homogeneity within our field, it is crucial that students in training become aware of potential biases which could impact patient care and student experiences.
