What is it about?

This work investigated the chronic toxic effects of the carbamate insecticide, methomyl on kidneys and testes of adult male albino rats and the potential antioxidant protection mediated by folic acid.

Why is it important?

This study identified that folic acid supplementation may have a beneficial effect in preventing or reducing the deleterious effects of methomyl exposure on kidney as well as testis structure and function. This is ascribed to the ability of folate to directly scavenge reactive oxygen species and indirectly enhance cellular redox homeostasis.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-author with whom I have had long standing collaborations (Prof. Vanessa Steenkamp).
