What is it about?

We have analyzed five GLOBE cultural practices dimensions - future orientation, gender egalitarianism, uncertainty avoidance, power distance, and performance orientation - and found that they consistently predict companies' economic, social, and environmental sustainability practices. Furthermore, we examined how these effects vary according to levels of analysis - country versus cultural cluster.

Why is it important?

We adopt a triple-bottom-line lens on sustainability and in this way analyze how culture affects economic, social, and environmental sustainability practices. Therefore, our study complements past research, which has tended to focus on selected aspects of sustainability. In addition, we investigated cultural practices rather than values, which aligns with current discussions in culture research to go beyond values-based approaches. Finally, as we considered both the country and cultural-cluster levels of analysis, we underline the need for multi-level research to fully capture how culture influences corporate sustainability.
