What is it about?

Melanins are important molecules for each alive organism. Most research reported about insoluble forms of melanins, typically found in nature. However, soluble melanins must be interesting in vivo activities and many interesting applications. This paper shows remarkably properties, and the studied extracts could be beneficial to treat diabetes

Why is it important?

Soluble melanins in selected food materials could be employed for the development of high value food or pharmaceutical supplements.

Perspectives

Soluble melanins in wild plants could be included as key components to develop and to implement strategies of rational use of them, and to contribute to the sustainable preservation of these natural resources.
