What is it about?

Climate change is projected to shift the existing niche of some native tree-line plant species of the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau both towards higher altitude and latitude as a result of changes in climatic suitability. Northern regions that are currently unsuitable will become climatically suitable for the native tree-line species of the region in the future.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that landscape of the Himalayan and Tibetan Plateau could change with uncertain future environmental condition in the region. That could in turn impact the integrity of existing ecosystem of the region disrupting the harmonious balance between nature and human being.

Perspectives

I am very hopeful that the findings of this study will be taken seriously by the concerned authorities of the region and will accordingly plan and prepare future trans-boundary adaptation strategies to minimise the likely impact on both nature and human well being.
