This paper is about an experience an instructor had using case-based instruction with many authentic, video-based patient cases.

Why is it important?

The speech-language pathology students reacted positively to the case studies and the instructor observed an increase in the students' self-efficacy to work with dysphagia patients. Also, guided reflective journaling was seen to be an effective research strategy to use with the students.

Perspectives

The way this research was designed and conducted could easily be a model for other self-efficacy researchers, not just with speech-language pathology students.
