What is it about?
Compared to normal pregnancy, gestational diabetic term fetuses and neonates revealed cardiac indices indicative of myocardial impairment as a result of hyperglycemic intrauterine environment and adaptation to acute changes in hemodynamic loading conditions at birth. Understanding mechanisms that contribute to different fetal perinatal cardiac function in gestational diabetes could help in improvement of management and treatment strategies to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcome.
