What is it about?
This study shows that having trust in senior management is important for high levels of commitment. It also shows that where this trust exists, there is a greater chance of employee's increasing their commitment when they think they are being treated fairly by line managers during performance appraisal. This shows how important line managers are in helping to create commitment, but that their actions are also constrained by the organizational climate.

Why is it important?
As HRM is increasingly devolved to line managers, it is important to understand the importance of their role in enacting practices such as performance appraisal and the impact they have on employees. Organizations need to create appropriate environments that support line managers to ensure the maximum benefits can be gained from the implementation of such practices.
