What is it about?
A very rapid, simple, and highly sensitive capillary electrophoresis analysis method for the simultaneous determination of three curcuminoids was developed. The developed method was successfully applied to find curcuminoids amount in turmeric samples and herbal supplements

Why is it important?
Turmeric, a member of the Zingiberaceae family cultivated generally in India and Southeast Asia, has received great attention in the last years due to its health benefit properties. Major bioactive components of turmeric are curcumin, demethoxy curcumin(DMC) and bisdemethoxy curcumin (BDMC) which is responsible for its yellow color and pharmacological properties. Recently, a huge increase has been observed in the number of scientific studies on the activities of curcuminoids against various cancer species and Alzheimer’s disease. Significant and distinctive pharmaceutical contributions of curcuminoids were reported. Thereby, sensitive detection of curcuminoids became important in plants, herbal medicines, plasma and tumor tissue. Our method developed for the separation and quantification of curcuminoids is very fast and sensitive.
