The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS) has selected twelve outstanding PNAS papers, six winners and six finalists, for the 2021 Cozzarelli Prize. The award was established in 2005 as the PNAS Paper of the Year Prize and renamed the Cozzarelli Prize in 2007 to honor the late PNAS Editor-in-Chief Nicholas R. Cozzarelli. Papers receiving the Cozzarelli Prize were chosen from more than 3,400 research articles published by PNAS in 2021 and represent the six broadly defined classes under which the National Academy of Sciences is organized.
