What is it about?

This study uses the output area classification (OAC) to locate social groups, with their associated health behaviours, which have high A&E utilization, high admission rates from A&E and who also progress to the critical care unit.

Why is it important?

Social groups allow far more precise identification of high utilization than deprivation. Deprivation is unlikely to be the real driver of demand after first adjusting for social group.
