What is it about?
Deaths across the entire UK showed an unexplained increase in 2012. Spatial spread of an infectious agent was observed between small areas in Wigan (Manchester) which also led to increased medical admissions.

Why is it important?
This is clearly a novel infectious outbreak with highly unique kinetics. Further research is urgently required. The same event was repeated in 2014 and 2016 in the UK.
