What is it about?

Simple, inexpensive tool to differentiate two causes of thyrotoxicosis, can be the ratio of free T3 to free T4. We have statistically correlated the ratio of serum free T3 to free T4 with thyroid scan in patients with thyrotoxicosis and came to the conclusion that this ratio is the brilliant tool to distinguish graves disease from thyroiditis.

Why is it important?

We can avoid thyroid technetium scan which is expensive and not accessible in developing countries like Nepal.

Perspectives

Thyroid scan can be avoided if ratio of free T3 to free T4 is less than 0.3 and a diagnosis of thyroiditis can be made.
