What is it about?

In Ukraine, young people can improve the future of politics and governance. Youth organizations like Pioneer and Komsomol trained young people in political ideology in the erstwhile Soviet Union. This started from a young age. But this did not give them freedom of choice or real involvement with governance. After the 2014 Revolution of Dignity, Ukrainian politics has progressed towards European democratic values. But this progress has been quite slow. Many young MPs and politicians today hope to bring European political values and universal standards of democracy to Ukraine. The question remains whether they will succeed in reforming the system. This article talks about youth involvement in Ukrainian politics in the current situation. It explains how the youth can change the socioeconomic, cultural, and demographic future of Ukraine.

Why is it important?

Older generations of voters tend to elect communists associated with the stability of the past. But young people prefer to vote for an improved future. Many think that older politicians are experienced and stable because of their influence on the government. But younger politicians seek stability based on freedom, democracy, rule of law, human rights, and constitutional guarantees. The older generation of political and business elites may resist the changes that young leaders bring. But young people who have no professional experience can still improve Ukrainian governance. This is because they possess qualities like good education, readiness, and patriotism. KEY TAKEAWAY: Without active participation of its youth, Ukraine cannot achieve European standards of good governance. With this, the youth of Ukraine can shape their futures.
