What is it about?
One can debate a long time on costs and benefits of research data sharing. These can also be calculated, however. This paper makes explicit the costs and the benefits. It turns out that research data sharing is profitable, if everyone does it.

Why is it important?
The calculations provide insight in the determinants of sharing, i.e. incentives for the individual researchers that do the sharing, how to increase benefits, how to lower costs of sharing.
