What is it about?

This paper shows that TORC2 - Gad8 dependent phosphorylation of myosin-1 alters the IQ neck region and switches light chains to alter motor activity at different cell and lifecycle stages. This modulates polarised cell growth, endocytosis, and the ability to respond to changes in the cell's environment.

Why is it important?

This paper described the discovery that TORC2 / Gad8 dependent phosphorylation of fission yeast myosin I not only regulates interaction with different light chains, the calcium but the conformation of the myosin lever arm. This has a direct impact in maintaining correct polarised cell growth, actin polymer dynamics, controlling endocytosis and changing the rate of growth in response to nutrient availability.
