What is it about?
This short piece briefly examines the relationship between the local and the global in TV formats. It argues that although TV formats are transnational in the sense that they travel and incorporate cross-border rules, these rules are applied to create characters and fashion stories that resonate locally. In this sense, TV formats make the local visible and the global invisible.
