Global Impacts of COVID-19: Health, Economy, Environment, and Digital Changes Explained

The study utilized the PRISMA-ScR guidelines to conduct a scoping review examining the multidimensional impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 4,152 records were identified from multiple databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, and the WHO COVID-19 Database. After removing duplicates and irrelevant records, 1,226 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility, resulting in 239 studies being included in the final synthesis. The research applied the Multidimensional Shock-Response-Recovery (MSRR) Model to analyze pandemic-induced systemic shocks across health, economy, society, education, and environment. The study identified how public health measures, like lockdowns and remote work transitions, shaped causal pathways leading to various disruptions. Recovery phases were found to differ by region and income level, influenced by health capacity and digital infrastructure. The final synthesis provided quantitative measures, such as global GDP contraction and reductions in NO2 emissions, to support the multidimensional analysis.
