What is it about?
The search for leisure activities that include direct contact with animals has been gaining increasing prominence in the Tourism sector. This work aimed to evaluate the use of animals in the tourist activity and its consequences, exemplifying activities that use the interaction with animals, both in Tocantins, in Brazil, and in the world. The methodological research used was the literature review with qualitative information approach, to deepen the universe of the theme. The results show that Animal Tourism, if poorly structured, has a great negative impact on the welfare of these beings. Most people are unaware that most animals used as attractions are subject to pain, stress, fear, anxiety, and boredom. Many live long years of exploration. Thus, it is concluded that it is necessary to think of a more responsible tourism model that guarantees health and promotes the environmental, behavioral and nutritional needs of the animals. Through the involvement and awareness of both the trade and the tourists, it is possible to avoid abuses committed to the animal. Just so, the experience will truly be unforgettable and exciting.
