What is it about?

Mobile robots are increasingly taking part in our everyday life. In order to ensure as pleasant interaction between robots and their users as possible, the robots need to recognize people and their needs. An overview of hardware and software solutions for mobile robots with healthcare tasks oriented toward humans is presented together with suggestions for future work.

Why is it important?

The need for human-oriented mobile robots is increasing, especially in healthcare-based applications. Therefore, we believe that a comprehensive overview of what has already been done in the field offers researchers an easy way to get acquainted with solutions and challenges. Additionally, it includes references to all of the widely used image processing algorithms for human recognition and tracking and their comparison, which can help junior researchers to start designing their research. Futhermore, article addresses challenges which are of big importance for successful implementation of mobile robots in everday life.
