What is it about?

In the feminism / post-feminism debate one site of struggle is the male gaze and how women relate to it. Is 'being sexy' about sexual agency, a woman's own choice, or is there a structure with fixed patterns underlying sexualization? By looking at five famous lesbian Youtubers in Spain, we have tried to offer some answers.

Why is it important?

The findings of our research show that some lesbian Youtubers' management of their bodies is mainly located outside the male gaze and generates new imaginaries. This gives them a sexual agency that is not framed in post-feminism, and could potentially inspire hetero women.

Perspectives

I hope this article inspires young girls and women around the world on how they can manage their body images, including sexiness, without framing them in the male gaze perspective. I especially enjoyed the field study of this article as it introduced me to these wonderful and brave women on Youtube, who give their particular view on the world.
