What is it about?

We analyse the clay mineral composition and maturity of organic matter in the contact-metamorphic aureole of the Torres del Paine intrusion. We find that chlorite is a much better proxy for temperature clay cristallinity and that the intrusion aureole reaches to about 1.5 km away from the intrusion. The intrusion developed over 150000 years in several phases.

Why is it important?

We were able to validate temperature proxies and give recommendations for future studies. We also considerably enhanced our knowledge about the placement of the Torres del Paine intrusion.

Perspectives

On the basis of our proxy evaluation, future studies can more reliably reconstruct temperatures.
