What is it about?

The anticipated increase in the prevalence of NCDs in people living with HIV due to the epidemiological transition of their life spans as antiretroviral treatment outcomes improve, makes the evaluation of Quality of Care (QoC) of this statistically large sub-population imperative. The study assessed the QoC of people living with HIV/ NCDs comorbid conditions using a framework based mixed methods approach. Findings indicated that the QoC was inadequate, with the major gaps being found in the organizational structure of the health system.

Why is it important?

This evaluation highlights how the critical gaps in the care of people who have comorbid HIV/NCDs conditions are affecting the treatment outcomes of the affected.

Perspectives

The scarcity of studies evaluating QoC in the African setting, negatively affects health promotion efforts in these countries. More studies are certainly needed in this research area and setting.
