What is it about?

This study found that measuring workload across several days provides a reliable picture of how demanding a person's typical day feels. Higher whole-day workload was linked with greater stress and poorer blood glucose management in adults with type 1 diabetes.

Why is it important?

Managing a chronic condition adds to the demands people face each day, making it important to understand total daily workload rather than work demands alone. A reliable measure of typical whole-day workload may help lifestyle interventionists identify people who could benefit from interventions to reduce daily demands and improve health, or help track progress in such interventions.

Perspectives

This paper was written with the simple idea that the workload of diabetes management (e.g., needing to consistently check blood glucose, carb count, etc.) on top of other responsibilities could itself impact quality of diabetes management and overall health. Even if the actual measure isn't used, hopefully the idea that overall workload could be useful to address in adults with diabetes is helpful.
