What is it about?
Alloy 690 is used for nuclear steam generator alloy tubing. This material is used in a heat-treated condition. Although, alloy 690 is hard to sensitize due to its high chromium content determining the extent of chromium depletion at grain boundaries is key to ensure the proper resistance of tubes to the different stress corrosion cracking (SCC) submodes that may occur. This paper establishes the appropriate conditions to determine the degree of sensitization of alloy 690 by the double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation test.
