What is it about?
This paper investigates the corrosion potentials (open circuit potential) of various pure rare earth elements in NaCl as a function of both pH and concentration. Previous reports on the OCP of rare earth elements was previously limited. Here, Ce, La, Nd, Gd, and Er were evaluated.

Why is it important?
This paper shows that all rare earth elements do not behave similarly and possess corrosion potentials much more positive than their respective oxidation/reduction potentials.
